eNews# 21

Despite the sometimes heavy burden of our work,
it is a privilege to be called by God to his service.
We ask for his blessings for truly, his yoke is one of peace.

For the unique call to serve you and your people through Catholic schools:
We thank you, Lord.

For the precious children entrusted to our care:
We thank you, Lord.

For the faculty and staff who labor at this school:
We thank you, Lord.

For our families, friends, parents, clergy and Board members who support our work:
We thank you, Lord.

For your everlasting love and mercy:
We thank you, Lord.

Blessed are you, Lord our God,
for you lead us with unique gifts of the Spirit by separate ways,
and you return us to one another.
In loving kindness you have called us here together.
Keep us in your care through all our pilgrimage
until we find our journey’s end with you.

Aloha and God Bless you,

I chose this prayer because it calls us to reflect on what we are thankful for.  As the one line of the prayer says, “For the faculty and staff who labor at this school: we thank you Lord.”  I cannot help but think of our beloved Mrs. Paula Pope.

Paula resigned from her position as secretary on Friday.  Mrs. Pope is following her doctor’s orders and taking care of her health.  She wanted to make sure the children know she is not sick but is taking care of herself and needed to take a break from work. We have so much to be thankful for in having had Paula help run the school for the past 17 years.   Everyone knows how essential Paula has been as a member of our school ohana. She is sorely missed and it will be impossible to replace her.  We at the school love Paula, support her decision with all the love in our hearts, and wish for her nothing but happiness and good health. We have been blessed in our relationships with Paula. Mrs. Pope is a very humble woman and doesn’t want a big deal made out of a decision that was not easy for her to make.  Please join the teachers and me in prayer for Paula’s continued good health and vibrancy in life.

THE 40th ANNUAL BAZAAR
“Manpower”
With that said, I ask all of the school families to bear with me and whomever else is working in the office.  We are quickly approaching the 40th Annual Bazaar and the assigning of your “jobs” during the Bazaar is the task at hand.  Paula is going to train someone to do the job we call “Manpower.”  Paula began doing this Bazaar job when she was a parent at our school and has done it for so many years she could do it in her sleep! I beg of you to follow the directions on the attached sign-up form and cooperate with the process and the new person that will be assigning you your time slots and locations of work.

Like every year, you are asked to work 8 hours at the Bazaar (two four hour shifts).  Attached is the letter that goes out every year.  Please fill it out and return it to the school office ASAP.  If you cannot print it out at your home, there will be copies of the sign-up sheet in the school office. The new Manpower person will send a confirmation to you regarding your assignment (position/placement and hours of your shift) at the Bazaar.  This huge event is run by volunteers and I thank you in advance for being part of the amazing team of parents, teachers, students, parishioners and community members that make this party happen!

SCRIP
“Scrip” is the currency of the Bazaar.  Each family is responsible for selling scrip out in the community.  Taryn Agmata (Kdg. mom)is the chairperson for this part of the Bazaar and will collect and record the money from your sales of scrip.  You can get more scrip to sell when you turn in your first assigned value of scrip tickets. Taryn and Anastasia will be in the cafeteria (or at a table in front of the cafeteria) on the days indicated on your scrip envelope.  There are incentive prizes for the top sellers.  Encourage your children to sell scrip to your neighbors and friends.

Classroom Food Donations for the Bazaar
Each student is to bring in a particular item for the Food Booths and/or Kountry Kitchen and Malasada Booth.  Here is the breakdown of the items we need and have assigned to each classroom.  The classroom teacher will keep track of your donation.
I have put this list as an attachment to this eNews, but here it is printed out for you also.  Mrs. Advincula is the chairperson of the Food section of the Bazaar and thanks you for your contribution as do I.

NO SCHOOL MONDAY…SPIRIT DAY FRIDAY…EARLY DISMISSAL
Remember that we have so much to be thankful for… Catholic School’s Week is all of next week.  The Catholic Schools across the nation celebrate being of service to the children of God.  The teachers are required to be at a Mass and professional development session on Monday, Jan. 30.  Remember, No School Monday and we will dismiss early on Friday at the conclusion of our Spirit Day.  Please come join the fun Friday, 9-11 on the playground and see what the kids love to do each year during Catholic Schools Week.

YEARBOOKS ON SALE
If you want a yearbook, now is the time to sign up for one.  Please get the form in the office if you need another one and return the form and $25 to the office or your child’s classroom.  We do not order very many extra books so don’t miss out on this well made memory keepsake.
Mrs. Wendy Laurel is asking for help.  She needs parents to call other parents or business you know that may want to sponsor a page of the yearbook ($20/page or $30 for two pages).  The kids will insert the sponsor’s name, website or email in the book as a form of advertising or announcement. Please call Wendy Laurel (Hannah and Noelle Sheveland’s mom) if you have questions.

Soon to be… Saint Marianne Cope
Another one of the giants in the Catholic history of Hawaii is going to become a Saint soon.  On Friday (1/20) we celebrated Blessed Mother Marianne Cope’s feast day with a beautiful Mass.  The 4th Grade class prepared the readings, sang the psalms and led us in a glorious time of fellowship.  Thank you Fourth Grade!

100 DAYS!
Continue bringing in canned goods if possible.  The Kindergarten class is collecting 100 cans to celebrate their first 100 days of school.  The cans will go to our Outreach office in the Rectory to help others in need.

Peace Be With You,
Mrs. Hendricks, Principal
